SOME SECTIONS OF MY INFORMATION-TYPE APPS (FOR EXAMPLE DATA DISPLAY AND FILE DOWNLOADS) ARE NOT FUNCTIONING AS EXPECTED ON CERTAIN FREE HOSTING PLATFORMS. IN PARTICULAR, SOME FILE TYPES MAY BE MODIFIED OR RESTRICTED BY THE HOSTING ENVIRONMENT.
AS A RESULT, I AM CURRENTLY EVALUATING ALTERNATIVE HOSTING OPTIONS THAT BETTER SUPPORT STATIC WEB APPS AND UNMODIFIED FILE DOWNLOADS. GITHUB PAGES IS ONE OPTION UNDER CONSIDERATION.
Problem: Some data is missing when opening Plett Fish Dash normally.
Solution: Save a local copy of the page and run it from your phone.
How to do it (Android):
1. Open the page using VIA Browser
(Available on Google Play Store, very small download Âą3 MB)
2. Tap the â° menu â Tools â View Source
3. Zoom into the small text â Select anything â Select All â Copy
4. Paste into a text editor (e.g. QuickEdit)
5. Save the file as .html
6. Create a folder, for example:
"FACEBOOK USER WORKAROUND FOR PLETT FISH DASH MISSING DATA"
7. Save the file as:
plettfishdash_workaround.html
(or any folder / filename you prefer)
8. Open the file from your file manager
(I use File Manager+ because it allows long descriptive filenames)
â Result: You will now see Plett Fish Dash with the missing data present
â ī¸ Note: You will also see 404 errors â these can be ignored
Problem: GPX files may download with wrong file extension or be modified by hosting platform.
Solutions:
âĸ If the file downloads with the wrong extension, rename it back to .gpx
âĸ This is necessary if you want to open it with another app (e.g. GPXviewer)
âĸ Alternatively, open the file directly with the spotter app you are using
âĸ The spotter app works regardless of file extension
âĸ Same applies to GPX Beam Intersection Calculator V3
â ī¸ Note: There is no perfect workaround for this issue until better hosting is implemented
